Greenheart carries a variety of goods including recycled accessories and handbags, home goods, gourmet treats, cookbooks, glassware, jewelry, toys, personal care, organic cotton t-shirts and more. Greenheart believes consumers have the power to affect positive World change by supporting sustainable and fair business practices in their purchasing choices." Located in Wicker Park, Greenheart has blended into the community offering beautiful Fair Trade goods from wine to jewelry, to household products and everything in between to consumers. They regularly put on events to help everyday people in the Chicago to understand the benefits of Fair Trade.Fair Trade groups and artisans are regularly featured during events giving them a chance to promote their work and show off products. Greenheart Shop partners with a variety of organizations to promote the principles of Fair Trade and eco friendly principles including their parent organization the Center for Cultural Interchange (CCI). CCI is a “nonprofit cultural exchange organization dedicated to the promotion of cultural understanding, academic development, environmental consciousness and world peace.”
Other partners include Green America, Local First Chicago, the Fair Trade Federation, and Chicago Fair Trade. Chicago Fair trade is a “not-for-profit organization dedicated to furthering the Fair Trade movement and making Chicago an international Fair Trade city.” They work all across the city to promote Fair Trade initiatives. They have fundraisers, put on events, and provide an outlet to connect all Fair Trade activity throughout Chicago.
Because of the efforts of Chicago Fair Trade and venues like Greenheart Shop the city of Chicago will celebrate becoming a Fair Trade City on World Fair Trade Day May 6th 2011 in Daily Plaza. More outlets like this are needed throughout Chicago, the U.S., and other countries to provide consumers with a convenient resource to purchase Fair trade products.
